Lucky Seven, The Revenge!

This week’s off-day Lucky Seven, with the New Pornographers’ Electric Version playing on the speakers…

1. Who should get the Game 3 playoff start?

2. Who is the National League rookie of the year? Why?

3. How would you rate Aaron Miles’ defense at shortstop since Eckstein has been out?

4. How should the Cardinals handle Scott Rolen for the rest of the year? Just like normal, give him maybe one or two days off? Give him a breather of more than a day or two? Give him as many ABs as possible so he can get rolling?

5. What team is the favorite to win the American League pennant? Why?

6. Give me a fearless prediction on at least one of this weekend’s big college football games — LSU-Auburn, UF-Tennessee, ND-UMich, USC-Nebraska, Oklahoma-Oregon, Louisville-Miami.

7. What’s your favorite comedy movie of all time?

1. Bullpen combination
2. Uggla, power hitter, good avg, and he’s from my hometown. Otherwise, Duncan.

3. Not bad.

4. Whatever it takes to get him out of the slump.

5. Twins

6. Where’s UK? For that alone, I pick Miami.

7. Tough choice here but I’m going with Animal House.

1. Reyes, unless we’re down 0-2; stopping the bleeding is a tough assignment to lay on a rookie. In that case, hope that the “good” Marquis shows up.
2. I don’t recall a year when there were so many excellent candidates, but I’d give it to Josh Johnson. Rookie pitchers aren’t supposed to approach the league lead in ERA, it just isn’t done. Dunc is having a great half-year but hasn’t seen enough action to match up with Johnson, Uggla, Ramirez, etc. (Hey — how about just giving the award to the whole Marlins team?)

3. Adequate, and full props for making Vizcaino unnecessary…

4. Insufficient information. To answer this one would require knowing just what’s going on with him physically. If he’s hurting — and it sure looks like he is — then rest him as much as possible. If not, then *play* him as much as possible to break the slump. TLR and the trainers know Rolen better than we do, and on this one I trust them to do the right thing.

5. Yankees, alas. The loss of Liriano is just devastating to the Twins, whom I’d like to see win instead.

6. ND 24, Michigan 13 — and Clair S and Dave P, if you’re reading this, nyah nyah nyah. :-)

7. Dr. Strangelove.

1. Aaron Miles
2. Uggla

3. good enough for government work

4. trade him for Mark Tehan

5. Yankees

6. Wyoming. After their near upset of Virginia last weekend, they’re unstoppable! Watch out Boise State!

7. The Fireman’s Ball

1. Reyes. Sink or swim.

2. Johnson. Pitching well almost immediately…especially if the fish make the playoffs.

3. Surprisingly good. I have been very happy with his play.

4. Tough one here…maybe move him to 5 and Juan E. up and get him going again. Or, leave him in his spot. Much like when Yadi struggles, his D is needed too much to sit him. However, when the playoffs come, if he still isn’t hitting, Speez has to start at third base. We can only afford so many holes in the offense.

5. I would have said the Twins, but now with no Liriano, it’s going to be a toss-up between Detroit and New York. I can’t call myself an American and say that the Yankees will win. I just can’t do it. So…Detroit.

6. Well..I got nothing for ya, here.

7. The Aristocrats…especially including the DVD extras. If you’re looking for one with a script, then it’s either Blazing Saddles or The Big Lebowski. I can get you a toe by 3 o’clock this afternoon…with nail polish.

1. Dream Weaver

2. Ugla, because he put one in Big Mac Land this year!

3. How would you rate Aaron Miles’ defense at shortstop since Eckstein has been out?

4. Why is it an issue for Rolen to have days off? Play him. I can’t believe a guy who plays as hard as him would even want to take days off, even if granted to him. Play him and get his bat rolling like is was when he was hitting the 3 slot for Albert.

5. Yanks, All-Star line up. Veterans, post-season, experience, Mangaging.

6. Nebraska over USC by 14!

7. Come on! Tommy Boy, hands down. Okay, not hands down, after all, there is Dumb and Dumber.

1.) Reyes.
2.) Johnson

3.) Very good. Though I don’t think his range as good as Eck’s, his arm seems to have more zip.

4.) Couple a days off, maybe try to lighten his bat??

5.) The Bronx bombers. They may not lose a playoff game, unless they have to face Santana or Zito.

6.) Oklahoma 42, Oregon 10, Paul Thompson breaks out and beats a defense geared towards stopping that Peterson kid. Case you hadn’t heard, he’s pretty good.

7.) “O Brother Where Art Thou” in a landslide.

1.Reyes, or a committee; but definitely not Marquis.
2.Probably Uggla, but how about comparing Duncan’s numbers to his since Duncan became fairly regular.

3.Very good; in fact I thought he should have been the regular 2B to begin with – – then we could have brought up or traded for someone other than Belliard.

4. We need his defense. Why not try him in the 2 hole and see if he hits better in front of AP. (Just flip Scott and duncan)

5. Who cares – it’s the American League.

6. USC and Nebraska play to a scoreless tie after 7 overtimes and both teams are too tired to play anymore.

7. Seems Like Old Times

1. Reyes has about as much chance as my grandmother of getting a Game 3 start, but he’s who I’d rather see out there.
2. a Marlin, likely Josh Johnson

3. Capable

4. I’m not sure fatigue is the problem, so I say play him and move him around in the order.

5. Tigers. Their fans need a memorable season and their young’uns have done a bang-up job with a few complementary vets.

6. Sorry, I’m a one-sport sort of girl.

7. Extreme tie: Monty Python and the Holy Grail, UHF, and Finding Nemo.

Animal House, American Grafitti and Blazing Saddles all rank right up there

1. It is a toss up between Weaver and Reyes, depends oh how they pitch the rest of the season.
2. Johnson but being a redbird fan I hope it would be Duncan.

3. Very good, he has stepped up his game.

4.I would rest him as time goes on and I would give all rest that need it.

5.Sleeper Twins, short series and they have the pitching even though they lost one picther today for the rest of the year.

6. Iowa

7. Little Miss Sunshine

I know this is offtopic…Matthew, I need some major career advice, and I thought you’d be the person to ask. Can you read my newest post and tell me what you think I should do?

In the Cards

http://inthecards.mlblogs.com

1. Who should get the Game 3 playoff start? Reyes.

2. Who is the National League rookie of the year? Why? Ryan Zimmerman from WAS…he’s clutch.

3. How would you rate Aaron Miles’ defense at shortstop since Eckstein has been out? Very good, I’m impressed.

4. How should the Cardinals handle Scott Rolen for the rest of the year? Just like normal, give him maybe one or two days off? Give him a breather of more than a day or two? Give him as many ABs as possible so he can get rolling? Give him the AB’s.

5. What team is the favorite to win the American League pennant? Why? TWINS. Pitching.

6. Give me a fearless prediction on at least one of this weekend’s big college football games — LSU-Auburn, UF-Tennessee, ND-UMich, USC-Nebraska, Oklahoma-Oregon, Louisville-Miami.

I’ll give you all of them. LSU over Auburn, UF over Tenn, Michigan over ND, Nebraska over USC, Oklahoma over Oregon, Miami over Louisville.

7. What’s your favorite comedy movie of all time?

OFFICE SPACE. easy one.

1. Who should get the Game 3 playoff start?

Assuming that they make the playoffs (highly likely but hardly a certainty yet), Reyes. Weaver can’t seem to get left-handed hitters out and who knows what is going on with Marquis.

2. Who is the National League rookie of the year? Why?

This is tough. Andre Ethier looks pretty good although he is a little short with 372 ABs in 114 Games played. His offensive numbers are better than Uggla’s but Uggla’s fielding is better. I think I still go with Ethier.

3. How would you rate Aaron Miles’ defense at shortstop since Eckstein has been out?

Playing well. I think his arm is better but I think Eckstein’s range is better. Eckstein seems to have better instincts for where to be.

4. How should the Cardinals handle Scott Rolen for the rest of the year? Just like normal, give him maybe one or two days off? Give him a breather of more than a day or two? Give him as many ABs as possible so he can get rolling?

It depends on what is really going on. Is he hurt—shoulder bothering him again—or is he just slumping. If he’s hurt, then it has to be up to the docs and Rolen and LaRussa. If he’s not hurt, play him. His glove is too valuable to lose, although Spiezio has been doing OK he isn’t a gold glover. Put him in the order where he is comfortable. Hitting in front of Pujols would certainly get him pitches to hit but then I’m not sure who you hit clean up. Duncan has the pop but I’m not sure he has the consistency and he’s slumping a bit right now.

5. What team is the favorite to win the American League pennant? Why?

Oh man I relly hate to say it but I think it’s going to be the Yankees. They’ve got so much power in that line up.

6. Give me a fearless prediction on at least one of this weekend’s big college football games — LSU-Auburn, UF-Tennessee, ND-UMich, USC-Nebraska, Oklahoma-Oregon, Louisville-Miami.

Nebraska over USC. Don’t follow college football much but I hate USC.

7. What’s your favorite comedy movie of all time?

I like Bill Murray—toss up between Caddyshack and Ghostbusters.

1.Depends on who we’re playing. If it’s a west coast team, hopefully game 3 will be on the road, so I’d go Weaver. If not, Reyes. Honestly, you could flip a coin. I don’t care who we start as long as it’s not Marquis. But then again, he’s got to be due for a good start sometime. This question gives me a headache!

2. Uggla. He’s just a good player.

3. Not spectacular, but very good. I hope he’s around next year.

4. They should handle him just like normal with a dayoff here and there. I’d rather have him slumping now than slump in the playoffs. Everyone’s allowed a slump every once in awhile.

5. If Minnesota can get there, I like them. They are a hot team even without Liriano.

6. Notre over Michigan by 10. I’m actually going to be flying up there tonight and will be at the game on Saturday sporting my new blue t-shirt. Go Irish!

7. Tommy Boy with Office Space as a close second. Both extremely quotable movies.

Auburn 20, LSU 17, maybe even in overtime

Florida 19, Tennessee 13

Notre Dame 20, Michigan 14

USC 27, Nebraska 7

Louisville 24, Miami 10

Oklahome – Oregon, I have no idea

7. What’s your favorite comedy movie of all time?

Clerks.

1. don’t you wish some playoff series were only 2 games long? i’ll go with marquis on the condition that he’s on a very short leash (and under the assumption that carp and supp give us at least 7 innings in games 1 and 2).
2. i like the suggestion that you just give it to the entire Marlins team.

3. i like Miles; plays hard and scrappy. he’ll never be an all-star, but he goes out there and keeps his head in the game.

4. Rolen will turn it on when the time comes; remember his jack off Clemmons in game 7? that one topped even Edmonds’s from the night before. classic.

5. you’re really asking two questions there. the first one takes us back to the beginning of the season, when the twins looked awful. i believe they are the “favorite.” who’s got the edge? that’s the other question. lamentably, the yanks.

6. eh…

7. 3-way tie, with a 3-game playoff at some point: Fletch, Raising Arizona, High Fidelity.

1. Give the ball to Reyes. He’s a little more consistant than Marquis or Weaver.

2. Ryan Zimmerman with the Nats. He is a 5 tool, old school player. He doesn’t just have great RBI numbers, but is first in game winning RBI’s. He has a great fielding percentage and made some amazing defensive gems that hints at a career up there with the best 3rd basemen in the game. I’m a Cards fan living in DC and you have to see this kid to believe. He is THAT good.

3. Miles was pretty darn good. Not much different that Eck. Every team needs one utility infielder like him.

4. As of Sunday, when I’m writing this, Rolen’s slump is anything but. What a way to break out! 2 HR’s, 7 RBI’s and 2 doubles yesterday. I think unless he says he’s tired, Rolen needs to play to stay in the groove.

5. The Evil Empire. (Yankees) They are actually gelling right now. The pitching is decent. Mussina is a killer. Because they actually had to play their rookies this year, their bench is better than some teams. Hot going into the playoffs is not how you want to face the Yankees.

6. It’s all over now, and I’m not into football, but I hear the biggest suprise was Michigan over ND.

7. IT’S A TIE!!! Something About Mary and Planes, Trains & Automobiles.

I sure blew the ND-Michigan prediction. Right now, I would rate USC as #1, Auburn #2 and Ohio State #3
