Rest in peace, Josh

Not entirely sure what to say or how to say it, but I do want to send my personal best wishes and condolences to Josh Hancock’s family, friends and teammates. He was a funny, humble, honest guy whom I greatly enjoyed covering on a daily basis. Really don’t know what else to say. I’m glad he got his ring, that’s for sure.

If you have memories or thoughts you’d like to share, please go right ahead.

I’m sick to my stomach about this. R.I.P. Josh..

God Bless Josh, and his family, friends and team mates.

My condolences go out, along with M’s, to the friends, family, and teammates of Josh Hancock. It’s a sad, sad day and it makes me appreciate what I have all the more.

I was getting ready to listen to my braves play–i did not know Josh except for the fact he loved baseball….this has put my Sunday in the proper perspective…i am so sorry for all that lost Josh as a family member/teammate and those that lost Josh as their dear friend. I am sorry also that the Cubs had to be there at this most difficult time.My best to ya’ll also. Gosh–this is just hard for all that love the game/ even this die-hard braves fan.It is a sad day.

Another sad day in Red Bird history, all our thoughts and prayers go out to Josh’s family. He will be greatly missed.

Words can’t describe it. Horrible tragedy.

I was driving back from Kirksville this morning and could not believe this very sad news.

It was mentioned on the radio yesterday that Josh had been late for the game and all of the Cardinals were worried after the tragic death of Darryl Kile. But that Josh had just gotten a new mattress which he loved and overslept.

And now this.

Although it is something you hope to never have to do – 550 did a great job covering this tragedy. I am sorry that I never had the opportunity to meet this fine young man.

My thoughts and prayers are with his families – actual and Cardinal.

My condolences go out to his family on this very sad day of mourning. Why G-d gives us bad news when we play the Cubs, I will never understand.

I met Josh about this time last year when the Cards were in Cincy for a Reds game. Since it had rained early in the day, BP was cancelled and as such, the bullpen was signing autographs.

Josh, tell DK and Jack that we got a 10th WS championship.

Let’s win again and dedicate it to Josh.

Rest in Peace, Josh , from all NY Met fans.

My heart feels empty, yet oh so heavy.I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of such a fine young man, and I send my condolences to everyone who knew Josh personally. I wish I did. I can only imagine how tough this must be for the Cardinals players and staff, especially after what happened to DK and now J.H. My heart goes out to the Hancock family and the entire team. Mourn today, but keep our lost friends in our hearts and in our memories they will live on. R.I.P Mr. Hancock. You will be missed.

All thoughts and prayers to Josh and all who loved him. My heart weighs with the heave of a loss so great. May the Lord bless his soul.

DONT REALLY KNOW WHAT TO SAY EXCEPT GOD IS WITH YOU ALL AND I WILL PRAY FOR JOSH AND HIS FAMILY..SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS …A RED SOX FAN :(

Cardinal Nation is mourning tonight for this fine young pitcher. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and teammates. Bless you all, and bless you Josh.

It’s kind of eery that just 4 days ago his being late for the game gave the team concern because it was similar to when DK passed. This is just so sad and unfortunate. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Rest in Peace, Josh. We all love you.

I can’t describe it, but I feel like I’ve lost a family member. I never got to meet Josh, but it feels like there’s a hole in my heart or something. We really are one big family.

Here’s a poem I wrote and read over my 30 minute special edition radio show dedicated to Josh. You can listen to the show at http://www.inthecards.mlblogs.com or http://www.blogtalkradio.com/coralandbradyonbaseball

Not once, not twice, but three times I’ve seen

A saddened and lost and confused scene

The first, a man with a voice heard by plenty

His personality brought together many

The second, an athlete with talent galore

Who was a friend of his teammates and by the fans adored

The third and most recent hit everyone hard again

It was a man and an athlete who brought cheer to the most serious men

All three were great friends and close to all others

Teammates, fathers, friends, and brothers

Jack Buck, Darryl Kile, and now Josh Hancock, rest in peace

But your memories you left us will never, ever cease

-JOSH HANCOCK-

1978-2007

From my wife and myself. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Josh Handcock.

Oh, and Josh, thanks for always being ready to contribute to the team…and for being a great teammate to the Cardinals’ team.
You will be sorely missed. Tragedy strikes three times in five years for the Cardinals, and despite the timing, this is no different from the death of Darryl Kile. Both are tragic, horribly sad incidents.

My prayers are with the Hancock family.

God bless

My thoughts and prayers are with Josh’s family and friends. I always felt good when Josh was called in for relief. I knew he would give a good effort. One of my favorite relievers. So sorry for your loss.

I’ll just add my respect for him here… Know that Red Sox Nation also feels your loss…

We are sending our condolences on the tragic death of Josh Hancock to friends, family, and all who knew this marvelous man!

My heart is heavy…..I just can’t beleive this has happened..so I just can’t imagine what Josh’s teammates are going through….My thoughts and prayers are with you all…especially his family…God will get you through this….

Josh we are all going to miss you and the person you were..no one can replace you…I am praying Josh’s family and i can’t even imagine what they or the clubhouse is going through..come one boys…this season is for Josh!

You will be remembered Josh. I was at Mississippi State when you were at Auburn, and remember you well. Rest well my friend.

May God grant peace and mercy to the Hancock family as well as the Cardinals organization. May His grace and love surround all who feel the loss of Josh Hancock, and draw all of his friends and family together in fellowship and healing. May God bless his family with memories that become more fond and less painful as the days go by but never fade, and may God bless his teammates with the same. We thank God and his son for the gift of salvation, and for the gift of His mercy and healing grace. Amen.

What a terrible tragedy for such a young man to be taken so soon. My prayers and my sincere and deepest condolences go out to his family, and to the entire St. Louis baseball family. I applaud the Cardinal’s decision to postpone last nights game. As much as we all love baseball, this event carried far more importance, and not playing, in honor of Josh Hancock, was the right thing to do.

I was walking out the door to head down to St. Louis for the day, and then on to the game, when I heard the news. I looked at my wife and told her what had happened, and we both stared at the computer, not knowing what to think. Here was a great young man, who had the world at his hands, and now, we will never know what potential he had. I know that Cardinal Nation will sure miss his guts that he had out there on the mound!

The call to the bullpen this time came from God! It is such a tragedy for a young man like this to pass, but Josh is in a much better place now. My heart and prayers go out to his family, friends, and teammates in this hard time of mourning.

Watching so many games, and living the Cardinal expierence, there is also a hole in my heart, even though I did not know #32. Rest in Peace Josh, you will be missed!

I just want the family, friends and colleagues of Josh Hancock to know that our prayers are with them. I am an STL hometown girl living in Detroit, Michigan. I’m wearing my red Cardinals baseball cap in tribute to Josh. The Cards beat the Tigers in the WS last year…and when people ask why I’m wearing my Cardinal red I tell them it’s for Josh and it always makes them recognize a moment of respect. God bless you, Cardinals…you have fans everywhere!

Josh will be missed sooooo much. He was such a benefit to the team and to Cardinal nation, with his attitude, his love for the game, and his encouragement to his team. He had so much potential to give.

To the Cardinals, we’ve been hit…hard. And it’s not the first time. But now, let’s take this season and win it for Josh. Do it for him. He deserves that honor. Stay strong, guys. We’re behind you 100%.

I was at work on Sunday morning, when my pager started going off like crazy; first, my mother, then my husband called. I knew something bad had happened, because I never get calls at work. I was totally unprepared for what they would tell me. I was shocked to say the least, and it was a long time before I could even get my breath to respond. How could this be? He was so young, so good, and just beginning to really shine. He thrilled us all in Cardinal Nation last season, and our collective joy at that remarkable season may not have happened at all if he hadn’t been there to do what he did best.

What a joy to watch that always happy young guy, turn into a stoic, focused, driven pitcher each time he took the mound for our beloved Cards. We will all miss him. Losing one of our Cardinal boys is like losing someone in your family.

Now it’s time for all of us die-hard Redbird fans to show the support and love to our team that they need right now. We’re behind you guys, all of you, no matter what happens. We love you all just the same! Just stay strong and focused…just like Josh would have. Do it for him. My heart goes out to his family and friends and to all of his teammates. Remember the good times and enjoy each day you are given. God Bless You Josh, and rest in peace #32.

I’d just like to say best wishes to josh’s family and my most sincere condolences for their loss.We cardinal fans never forget anyone thats been a part of it,and josh will always live on in the hearts and minds of the cardinal nation. Rest in peace, josh.Thank you for all you did for us and rest assured you will never be forgotten.

I was hopeful that I could find a way to get a message to the Hancock Family. My famiy have been Cardinal Fans all of our lives. We were lucky enough to be able to make a trip to St. Louis last summer, a trip we always wanted to make. We live in PA. My children waited around after the game hoping to get a glimpse of some of the Cardinal players. Josh stopped and took time to sign a ball my 5 year old daughter, a hat for my 18 year old son, and signed a Fred Bird for my 21 year old daughter. He took time to pose for pictures and chat with our family. I doubt that he realized how special this was at the time. But it was a moment our entire family will always remember. He was a special person who helped make a wonderful trip for our family. We would would like to tell the Hancock Family you had a very special son who will always be remembered. May God bless Josh and help to ease the pain of a grieving Family and a grieving Cardinal’s Family.

Drubk driving is a crime. It kills people. Better it kills the driver than an innocent victim, somebody’s son or daughter.
