Friday early tidbits: Walters up, Barden down
* The Cardinals went back to 13 pitchers today, recalling P.J. Walters from Triple-A Memphis and optioning Brian Barden to Memphis.
* Got some updates from FSN today, a few changes to the TV schedule: the June 20 game at home against Kansas City will move up to a 3:10 p.m. CT start and will be on FOX. The July 23 makeup game at Washington will start at 6:05 p.m. CT and will be on FSN Midwest. The Aug. 1 game vs. Houston has been moved back to 6:15 p.m. CT and will now be an FSN Midwest game. And the Aug. 3 game vs. Milwaukee has been switched to KSDK (channel 5) but is still set for a 12:15 p.m. CT start.
* Albert Pujols is leading in the “fan poll” for the Home Run Derby. It’s a non-binding vote, but…

So, does that leave Thurston/Ryan at 3B, or is Mo working on a deal to bring one in?
AP will surely participate. Barring any injury risk, Albert is the man in the ‘Lou. This will be my first (and possibly only) ASG I ever get to witness firsthand and I can hardly wait. Go CARDS!

The Barden/Walters move seems reasonable enough on its face, with some DH games coming; there’ll be little incentive to make the double switches that TLR is fond of. In fact, I’m a little surprised more AL teams don’t set their rosters up with very deep bullpens.
I wonder, though: is there anything to this move that might be a prelude to a deal?
I’m confused by the scheduling update. The Cards are scheduled for an off-day August 3rd, not a game against Milwaukee.
Ugh. Oct. 3. Sorry, thanks for catching that.
