Sunday lineups and tidbits: DeRosa, Franklin, Ryan

It’s a pleasant day by the river in Cincinnati, breezy, mild and cloudy. But the forecast says it’ll be clearing up as the afternoon goes on.

* Brendan Ryan is still not feeling 100 percent after a battle with “gastrointestinal distress” on Saturday, but he’s well enough to be in the lineup.

* Mark DeRosa has taken some swings off a tee, starting yesterday. The Cardinals still aren’t ready to declare when he’ll return to the lineup, but they haven’t ruled out Tuesday. He’ll get a checkup on his strained left wrist on Monday.

* Ryan Franklin could, conceivably, be available to pitch today. But the strong preference is to give him the extra rest after he pitched three days in a row — and worked very hard in the third of those games.

TLR’s comment:

“We’ll see when he plays catch. I think there’s a chance, but we’ll see. If we’ve got a great chance, [he could pitch]. It’s a big ballgame to win. … It would be nice to get a lot of runs and save him. That would be our best case.”

* Cardinals lineup vs. RHP Bronson Arroyo:
1. Schumaker 2B
2. Rasmus CF
3. Pujols 1B
4. Ludwick RF
5. Ankiel LF
6. Molina C
7. Thurston 3B
8. Carpenter P
9. Ryan SS

Reds lineup:
1. Dickerson LF
2. Taveras CF
3. Votto 1B
4. Phillips 2B
5. Bruce RF
6. Encarnacion 3B
7. Hairston SS
8. Hanigan C
9. Arroyo P

Today’s playlist:
Gorillaz, “Feel Good Inc.”
LCD Soundsystem, “Sound of Silver”
Kaiser Chiefs, “Never Miss a Beat”
TV On the Radio, “Golden Age”
Cut Copy, “Hearts On Fire”

I love this lineup, except for Thurston. Replace Thurston with DeRosa when he is back, put him in the 4 hole and move everybody else down one spot and that is my ideal of a perfect lineup. Go cards. Rasmus for rookie of the year!!

Why does Ryan Ludwick have a black eye?

Yeah. What happened to Lud’s right eye? Looks like he got popped by a ball or something. I think I like the idea of DeRosa batting second. Rasmus 5th or sixth.

Hrabosky said he tripped over his luggage in the dark and hit his eye.

Thanks Slforre! I was thinking of DeRosa second, but then I was thinking maybe he could do a better job protecting AP than anybody that has tried so far this year. Soon they will have to move Rasmus to 4th… j/k… he is swinging well right now though, and I love to see that.

Matt,

What’s the best way to contact you? I just graduated with a journalism degree from U. of Kentucky, and I’m looking into jobs. Would love to shoot you a few questions.

Thanks,
Pete

Would somebody PLEASE tell Al Hrabosky that Colby Rasmus does not have a HIGH ANAL HERNIA but a HIATAL HERNIA? He has mispronounced this word every game for the past week. Someone save him from himself !!!!

Toronto put Roy Halliday on a plate – he’s for sale – Let’s get in this one, boys !!!

I really enjoy keeping up with news and rumors about the Cardinals. With everything which has been happening this year, it has been even more important than before. What with the kind of year Albert is having, the players we have on the DL, and the possibility of our getting replacement players from other teams, there seems to always be something which real Cardinal fans want to find out the latest information about. But it seems more and more this Blog is dropping the ball when it comes to keeping us informed. Here it is Wednesday and a lot has been happening, yet we still have a Blog entry from last Sunday. If Matt is too busy to keep the Blog up to date, isn’t there someone else to do it who took the job more seriously?

Alaska,
I assure you M is very serious about this, and honestly I don’t think there is anyone else I want to hear blog about the redbirds… M may get a little busy every now and then, but the quality of his blogs are amazing. There are plenty of other Cardinals blogs out there if you don’t like this one. Please try those out instead of coming on here and blasting the author that most of us have been with for years. I am not trying to be mean, but I don’t want to hear that on the blog I like to read.

Alaska,

I couldn’t agree with you more. In years past this blog was updated daily. It is now Thursday and we are still looking at Sunday Tidbits. If M is too busy, he should pass it on to someone else.

anybody else thinking put DeRosa at 2nd, next year, with Wallace or Freese at 3rd. Skip, Rasmus and Ludwick in the OF. Let Ankiel walk. Dump, trade, release Duncan. Let Glaus go unless he is willing to take a huge paycut. Let Thurston go, now. Free up some dollars and bank them for Albert. Keep Ryan and T. Greene. Not sure what to do with K. Greene. Give Boggs a shot at the 5th spot in the rotation, especially the way Wellemeyer is pitching.

Guys he hasn’t had a story on the main page either in awhile, so either he is on vacation, or he is sick or something.

M,

Oh brother, where art thou? Everything OK, Dude?

I think I’m alone in this, but I think the All-Star game was a HUGE disappointment. I am SO glad I didn’t spend my hard earned money to go to Busch to see it.

I enjoy this blog immensely, principally because it is full of information without being infused with never-ending stats. However, there has been nothing posted lately with no explanation of the long absence. Keep up the good work but please get back to it.

“The Cardinals, ball in general, life on the road… on this blog, either you do or you don’t.”

Evidently someone doesn’t…

You guys are gonna feel like real A-holes if it turns out that M was sick or something serious. Chill out, folks. Read another blog if you’re so starved for info. To M…I hope all is well with you and the Mrs. Let us know when you can, ok. Some of us are just concerned for your well-being.

Matthew has been posting plenty of articles on the Cards home page, don’t know why he has been silent on the blog for 2 weeks. The Red Sox cut Julio Lugo today, shoud the Cards look into how they might use him? He would come cheap since the Sox are still on the hook for his salary.
