Wow what a pathetic showing by the Cardinals at the plate today/tonight… I’ll give em the first 7 v. Santana, but after that how many times can you screw up TLR. This lineup is striking out way too many times, to be a championship ball club. Maybe too McGwire homer happy
I agree at least on a couple of things. First the offensive performance was WORSE than pathetic today. You can’t leve 20 men on base unless you are doing so b/c you have are also pushing across a large number of runs. The number of opportunities that were just flat out blown is really alarming. The scary thing is that this has been the rule rather than the exception for the last 4 or 5 games. It brigns back memories of last year. I also agree that the offense is WAY TOO reliant on the HR. I think they were saying that 60% of their runs come on the HR. That is WAY TOO high. I’m not sure if it is McGwire’s influence or just a fluke b/c we are so early in the season. I hope it is the latter b/c I don’t believe they can win a championship without a more robust offense.
Last night’s 20 inning game was fun for awhile, then it got very frustrating. I blame to loss on the broad, managing shoulders of LaRussa. Why would you do a double-switch and put the pitcher to bat behind Pujols? It killed us all night. Also, why was Luckwick running in the 19th? Even if he makes it, they walk Albert. If he stays on first, he may score on Albert’s double, and we win the game on Molina’s single. LaRussa is a great coach, but he has a tendency to over-manage or under-manage, and he did both last night!
