How are the weather conditions at Busch III? Do you think the game will start on time?

Sorry. Meant to post this on the Thursday lineups.

Why is Gerald Laird getting so much time at catcher? I remember over the last couple years it’s pretty much been The Molina Show.

Yeah, and that’s why Laird is getting all that time. Yadi showed definite signs of wearing down at the end of the year last year. Don’t want that to happen again. A day off per week, or more, is a good thing for a catcher.

Any news on Berkman and Holliday, Matthew? I wasn’t expecting either of them to be in the starting lineup, but are there any updates on how long they’re expected to be out?

And with him turning 29 in July, it’s even more important. I’m glad we got Laird, and I hope this stretches Yadi another year or two. He’s special. I wonder if his circa .320 batting average is at least partly another side benefit of this.

If we gave Albert $30M/per before signing Holliday and Berkman, this is what the lineup would look like every day…

Good point, Nick.

Not really. If they’d signed him, it would have been a deal starting next year. Wouldn’t have affected the 2011 payroll.

I was a little too concise in my answer. I was assuming that the signing would have come before 2010, since it predated Holliday, so it would have affected the payroll in 2011 and way beyond.

Again, too concise. I was assuming the deal was an extension being done before 2010.

Wrong word. New contract starting in 2010. Time to let this go. I’ll never get it right.

Ahh…point taken Matthew, the extension wouldn’t have started until 2012. May not have effected 2011, but if they’d done it “proactively” a few years ago, it may have hampered signing Holliday long term, knowing they had Albert on the books until 2020. But then they may not have even traded for Holliday, kept Wallace and moved Albert back to 3B (didn’t know that was an option until this week!)…ok, too many “ifs” and “buts” now!!
