I’m really not a big fan of the pitcher batting 8th, but it has come in handy a couple times. I was pleasantly surprised to see Brown in the lineup again. He did really well last night.
The main thing about tonight is our pitching. Mike Shannon is right. Our pitching (both starting and bullpen) is gonna have to be first class till Pujols gets back.
Wait a minute, so we finally have the “luxury” (using the word very circumstantially) to have Matt Holliday, Colby Rasmus, and Jon Jay in the outfield andddd we’re using Brown and sitting Rasmus. Don’t get me wrong Brown looks like a good addition to the club, but now is not the time to “see if it works out” for him.
Rasmus is in a deep slump (2-for-21, 9-for-56, 19-for-109). TLR didn’t feel like sending him out there against Cliff Lee would do anything but bury him even further in the slump. Doesn’t seem like a bad idea to me.

Rasmus can’t hit. When Pujols is back colby will be the best ph in baseball. At most. You can’t sit bats like berkman, Holliday, and jay.
Our pitching needs to be first class, period. Releasing Batista today will help towards that goal.
Also, I’m hearing Freese could be back by next Tuesday. Any truth to those rumors?
Not really a rumor. I’ve reported several times on Freese and that about fits in. Last week, he said he hoped to join the team on the BAL-TB trip, and that starts on Tuesday. No guarantee that’ll be the exact day, but it’s a reasonable estimate.

I heard the Freese rumor as well. Can’t wait!!
I can understand the logic of hitting a pitcher 8th to get an extra lead-off guy in front of Pujols, what’s the logic when Pujols is out?
Same – an extra potential runner on base in front of the 3-4 hitters.
