Wednesday lineups and one tidbit – UPDATED

The tidbit: The Cardinals announced their weekend rotation for the Reds. It will be Carpenter on Friday (as expected), Garcia on Saturday (as expected) and Lohse on Sunday (as was not entirely certain). TLR had hinted last night that he might bump Edwin Jackson up to pitch the Sunday game against Cincinnati, but instead Jackson will apparently pitch Monday at home, again versus the Brewers.

UPDATED – Scratch that. It will in fact be Jackson on Sunday with Lohse pitching at some point in next week’s home MILWAUKEE series. Not necessarily Monday.

Berkman: “I’m not going to get moved”

Lance Berkman said Tuesday afternoon that, despite rumors swirling about a potential deal to the Rangers, it’s his understanding that the Cardinals have no interest in trading him.

“I’m not going to get moved,” he said. ” I think the ship has sailed. I really do.

“I don’t want to be moved. I don’t think they want to move me. Obviously Mo has an obligation as the general manager to listen to any [offers]. But certainly I think both sides, myself and the Cardinals, we’re on the same page with this.”

More to come soon on Cardinals.com.

Holliday downplays back ailment

Matt Holliday was a late scratch from Wednesday’s lineup, with Jon Jay moving into the starting nine, but Holliday downplayed the severity of the back discomfort he’s feeling. The Cardinals’ star outfielder “tweaked” a muscle in the area of his left lower back while preparing to lift weights prior to Wednesday’s game against the Brewers.

“I don’t know much,” Holliday wrote in a text message shortly before the game. “Just tweaked a muscle on my left side, low-back/glute. Shouldn’t be more than a day or two.”

Corey Patterson got the start in right field instead of center, where he was originally slated to play, with Allen Craig moving from right field to left. Jay was added to the lineup in center field.

A club source said of the decision to sit Holliday, “We’re just being kind of safe.”

Lynn leaves with injury

Lance Lynn was removed from the Cardinals’ game on Tuesday night due to what the club is calling a strained left oblique muscle. No timetable for his potential return was given.

Lynn was pitching brilliantly before walking the last batter he faced, pinch-hitter George Kottaras. He had retired five straight batters, three of them on strikeouts, before walking Kottaras.

Following the last pitch to the Brewers’ backup catcher, Lynn doubled over in pain. Assistant athletic trainer Barry Weinberg and manager Tony La Russa, among others, came to check on him and Lynn was removed from the game.

Octavio Dotel took over for him.
