Cards’ roster set

The Cardinals set their roster Sunday morning for the National League Championship Series, and as expected the club made two adjustments.

Kyle McClellan and Lance Lynn were both added to the St. Louis bullpen, while second baseman Skip Schumaker and pitcher Jake Westbrook were removed from the roster. McClellan is returning from a bout with “dead arm,” while Lynn had been sidelined since August due to a strained left oblique muscle.

To make room for Lynn on the 40-man roster, the Cardinals designated outfielder Andrew Brown for assignment. Lynn had been on the 60-day disabled list, and Sunday was the first day he was eligible to be activated.

The Cardinals’ complete NLCS roster is as follows:

Pitchers: Jaime Garcia, Edwin Jackson, Chris Carpenter, Kyle Lohse, Jason Motte, Fernando Salas, Octavio Dotel, McClellan, Lynn, Mitchell Boggs, Arthur Rhodes, Marc Rzepczynski.

Hitters: Yadier Molina, Gerald Laird, Albert Pujols, Ryan Theriot, Rafael Furcal, David Freese, Nick Punto, Daniel Descalso, Matt Holliday, Jon Jay, Lance Berkman, Allen Craig, Adron Chambers.

I’m disappointed that the Cards DFA’ed Andy Brown. I thought that there was a few other possible moves that could have been made.

1 – release of Corey Patterson. Don’t see him being resigned for next year. And if he was going to make the WS roster – we were going to be in big trouble injury wise.
2 – Adam Reifer – (DFA) missed the 2011 season due to injury. Very small chance that someone would take him in the rule V draft this year.
3 – Pete Kozma – (DFA) very little chance that he will contribute at the major league level. Bust as a #1 draft pick.

I doubt Brown will be claimed, so they’ll be fine. He’ll just be outrighted.

MLB Trade Rumors just reported that the Rockies have claimed Andy Brown. Looks like we’re tied 1 apiece this week. (on our observations)

Well, that’s why you should give my reporting more weight than my guessing, it would seem.

Hope that you are right on Brown. I see him having more potential than some of the other players on the current 40 man roster, ie Robinson, Kozma & Anderson.

Any word/thoughts on the Cards signing Furcal for next season? Or will the Cards let him slip away and go with Theriot/Schumaker up the middle?
